Tevez a doubt for Argentina World Cup qualifier against Brazil

Argentina

Argentina forward Carlos Tevez is a doubt for Thursday's key World Cup qualifier against Brazil in Buenos Aires with an injured left knee.
The possible absence of Tevez, confirmed Monday by the Argentine Football Association, adds to concerns for Argentina coach Gerardo Martino, who will also be without Barcelona star Lionel Messi and Manchester City striker Sergio Ageuro.
Messi also has a left knee injury, while Aguero a torn hamstring in his left leg.
Few teams have Argentina's depth in attack with Gonzalo Higuain, Angel di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Angel Correa and Nicolas Gaitan still available.
Argentina, the runner-up to Germany last year's World Cup, has only one point from its first two World Cup qualifiers. Brazil has three from its first two matches.

Di Maria hopes Higuain replicates Napoli form for Argentina

With Argentina's qualifying campaign for World Cup 2018 off to a poor start, Angel Di Maria has backed Gonzalo Higuain to push them forward.
Angel Di Maria is confident Gonzalo Higuain can help Argentina overcome their goalscoring troubles against Brazil in the absence of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero.
Gerardo Martino's side suffered defeat to Ecuador before a draw with Paraguay in their opening two qualifiers for World Cup 2018, with Messi absent due to a knee problem and Aguero suffering a hamstring injury in their first outing.
Higuain - who missed in the penalty shoot-out that saw Chile beat Argentina to the Copa America 2015 title - was overlooked in that squad, but has been brought back in for the upcoming fixtures against Brazil and Colombia.
The 27-year-old has scored nine goals in 12 Serie A appearances for Napoli this season, and Di Maria hopes he can maintain that form with the national team.
"I'm happy about Pipa's [Higuain] return, he is having a very good season with Napoli," Di Maria said.
"Hopefully he can continue on this path here. I hope he helps us score goals, which is what we are missing."
Injury once again rules out Messi and Aguero, while Ezequiel Garay and Pablo Zabaleta are also sidelined, but Paris Saint-Germain winger Di Maria still expects Argentina to challenge for a first win of the campaign when they face Brazil on Thursday.
"I think that the injuries are important, especially those of Kun [Aguero] and Leo who are fundamental," he added.
"But the guys that are here will try to do everything to get the three points here [in Buenos Aires against Brazil] and in Barranquilla [against Colombia].
"We know it will not be easy."

Former Manchester United star Angel Di Maria believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic is as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Man United star claims new teammate is as good as Messi and Ronaldo

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is just as good as Lionel Messi and Cristano Ronaldo, according to former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria, 27, has played with both Messi and Ronaldo while competing for Argentina and Real Madrid, and has linked up with Ibrahimovic since joining PSG from United.

The prolific Swedish striker, who Arsenal have been linked to for several years, is generally placed in the bracket of players just below Messi and Ronaldo.

But Di Maria believes Ibrahimovic deserves to be recognised alongside the two global icons.

‘I’ve played with Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney and now Ibra,’ the Argentine told Le Parisien.

‘His technique and movements impress me. He’s at same level as Leo or Ronaldo.’

Manchester United: Angel Di Maria cites Louis van Gaal as reason for Old Trafford departure

Angel di Maria
Angel Di Maria has revealed that his incongruity with manager Louis van Gaal was a major reason behind his decision to leave Manchester United this summer. The former Real Madrid man joined Paris Saint-Germain after a long drawn transfer saga which started in the second half of last season.
The Argentine revealed that it was difficult for him and his family to adjust to life in England as it was very different from how he used to operate in Spain and Portugal. The midfielder struggled for form through the length of the season for which he was relegated to the bench on occasions, something which further put a block on his development.
Di Maria's house in Manchester was also broken into, which put fear into the hearts of his family. This ultimately led him to take the decision of moving to Paris, which he finds more convivial. The midfielder will begin his Champions League campaign with PSG on Tuesday against Malmo, something he missed during his time with the 20-time English Champions.
"Honestly, we were not happy," the winger told Le Parisien, as quoted by Goal. "At the beginning, we were a little. But then things became complicated. Life in England was a bit difficult. It is not easy for a South American. Some people get on fine, and for others it is harder to adapt.
"I didn't get on very well with the coach, so I think the decision to join Paris was the best solution. After [the break-in] it wasn't reasonable to stay. My family wasn't happy. My daughter was suffering. So it was important to leave.
"After the end of the Premier League, I went to the Copa America. It was at that moment that I started to see that the possibility of joining PSG was real."
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Paris last summer but the deal broke down owing to FFP restrictions, which led the player to come to Manchester. Di Maria alludes to the incident and claims that it has always been his destiny to ply his trade in the French capital.
"But even last year, before joining Manchester, I could have signed for Paris. It didn't happen for reasons you already know [Financial Fair Play restrictions on PSG]. But I believe it was my destiny to end up at Paris.
"From the little I have seen, our life here in France resembles more the life we led in Spain or Portugal. And at the moment we are 100 percent satisfied," he concluded.

'Van Gaal killed Di Maria at Man Utd!'

Former PSG star Edouard Cisse believes the Argentine winger will thrive under Laurent Blanc in the French capital after his struggles under the Dutch coach at Old Trafford
Edouard Cisse has attacked Louis van Gaal's management of Angel Di Maria, insisting the Manchester United boss "killed" the Argentine winger during his time at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old completed a £44.5 million move to the Ligue 1 champions in the summer transfer window and made his debut in Sunday's 3-0 win over Monaco, where he appeared as a second-half substitute.

And Cisse, who played over 150 league games for PSG during a 10-year spell with the club, has backed the former Real Madrid star to flourish under Laurent Blanc after struggling to make an impact in his one season for United.

He told Canal +: "He was a little short of sharpness in Monaco, but that's normal. He will bring rhythm and an ability to cut into defences.

"He will have a good manager. One of his best seasons came under [Carlo] Ancelotti. Van Gaal killed him. He must be left to express himself, he's an artist. Laurent Blanc will manage him and he'll have a very good season.

"The other objective for PSG is to stay unbeaten all season. It's never been done before in France. To motivate the players, it's an interesting challenge. Week after week, they would find new desire.

Louis van Gaal killed Angel Di Maria! Former West Ham midfielder slams Man Utd boss

EX-WEST HAM midfielder Edouard Cisse has blasted Louis van Gaal - saying the Manchester United boss killed Angel Di Maria.

Louis van Gaal killed Angel Di Maria, claims Edouard Cisse

United signed Di Maria for a British record £59.7m last summer but sold him to Paris St-Germain after a dismal debut season in the Premier League.
Di Maria, 27, hit out at Van Gaal following his move to the French club, claiming the Dutchman's "philosophy" forced him out the club.
Despite being dumped to the bench last season and starting pre-season late due to Copa America commitments, the Argentine set-up a goal on his debut for PSG against Monaco.
"He was a little short of sharpness in Monaco, but that's normal," Cisse, who spent the 2002/03 season at Upton Park, told Canal+. "He will bring rhythm and an ability to cut into defences.
“One of his best seasons came under [Carlo] Ancelotti. Van Gaal killed him.”

Angel Di Maria to learn from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani at PSG

Angel Di Maria believes he will improve still further alongside Paris Saint-Germain's stars, despite having already played with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney.
Di Maria, 27, completed his estimated €63 million move to PSG from Manchester United earlier this month, teaming up with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva, Javier Pastore and Thiago Motta in Laurent Blanc's squad.
Though he has won honours in Portugal with Benfica and in Spain with Real Madrid, including the Champions League, and already played alongside some of the game's biggest names for club and country, the Argentina international insisted PSG will take him another step forward.
"You learn every day. With the quality of players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marco Verratti, Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani, and so many others, I think I'm going to learn a lot," Di Maria told PSG's official website.
"I'm going to continue improving. I'm still young. A player learns till the end of his career, season after season. I will try to take advantage of the fact I'm alongside these players to continue learning."

Pedro Is the Player Manchester United Thought Angel Di Maria Would Be

Pedro Is the Player Manchester United Thought Angel Di Maria Would Be
Angel Di Maria’s year at Manchester United will go down alongside John Terry’s six-game loan spell at Nottingham Forest, Liverpool’s signing of Rickie Lambert and RadamelFalcao’s time at Old Trafford as mere blips in football’s space-time continuum. In hindsight, all four moves will be remembered as ones that probably shouldn’t have happened.
In the illustrious catalogue of players to have worn the famed No. 7 shirt at United, Di Maria was undoubtedly the most disappointing—and that’s even accounting for Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia. It’s not that the jersey weighed too heavily on the most expensive signing in Premier League history, but that it never really fitted him.
Di Maria should have been the perfect signing for United. He arrived at Old Trafford at a time when Van Gaal was desperate for some midfield energy and drive through the centre of the pitch. After such an insipid campaign the season before, Man Utd needed some star power too—the Argentinean looked to fit the bill in every way.
Indeed, the start made by the winger-turned-central-midfielder suggested Di Maria would quickly become one of the Premier League’s brightest stars, with three goals from his opening five games for his new club. But such form soon dried up, scoring just once more (against Yeovil Town) and leaving Di Maria fighting for his first-team place by the close of his debut Premier League campaign.
It was little wonder, then, that Van Gaal sought to sell so soon after, with Paris Saint-Germain completing a £44.3 million move for the Argentine last week.
United must now look for a replacement, and by all accounts they seem to have identified one—Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez, per Simon Jones of the MailOnline. The Spanish international is expected to leave Camp Nou this summer—reportedly asking to leave Barcaon Tuesday, as per BBC Sport—in search of more regular first-team football, and he would appear to be the perfect fit for United.
The Old Trafford clubstill in the middle of a complete squad overhaulhave been smarter this summer, signing players not just on the weight of their reputation but on their suitability. Morgan Schneiderlinmight not sell many shirts, but he is exactly the kind of player Van Gaalneeded to anchor his central unitparticularly in the event of an injury to Michael Carrick.
Di Maria was signed by United primarily as a central midfielder following his astonishing success in that position for Real Madrid the season before, but he was soon shifted on to the wing, and even into attack. He was positionally messed around by Van Gaal and so was never really the natural fit he appeared to be upon his arrival in England.
In that sense, Pedro is better suited for United, given that he only has just one position. There is little chance of Van Gaal using him as anything other than a flank operator and speedy attacking option. The Spanish international is not a particularly versatile player, but in this case that is certainly no bad thing.
Pedro was handed just 15 starts for Barcelona last season, yet he still managed to contribute six goals and six assists as the Catalans clinched a treble of trophies. His omission from Luis Enrique’s starting lineup was not down to his own personal decline, yet rather the arrival of Luis Suarez. Pedro might not be good enough to displace any of European football’s best attacking trio, but that shouldn’t taint what he can offer United.
Against Tottenham in Saturday’s Premier League opener, United were somewhat lacking in attacking flair, grinding out a win only after a Kyle Walker own goal. With Memphis Depay deployed in a central position, Van Gaal’s side is crying out for some pace on the wings, and that is certainly something Pedro will offer.
Of course, Di Maria should have contributed that qualityif it were not for his reluctance to track back and adopt Van Gaal’s philosophy. In any other circumstance, his sale to PSGwould have been painted as a damning indictment of the OldTrafford club. After all, even after such a dismal campaign the Argentine is still regarded as one of the world’s best players, which is underlined by his £44.3 million price tag. On the face of it, he is the kind of player Man Utdespecially in their current situationshould be at pains to keep.
But Van Gaal was right to cast off Di Maria at the first possible opportunity, especially with PSG so willing to reimburse United for much of the £59.7 million paid to Real Madrid last summer. The 27-year-old clearly didn’t wish to remain in England, and so there was little point in keeping a player whose commitment was in such doubt.
Apart from anything else, United’s upturn in the second half of the season coincided with Di Maria’s downturn. Van Gaalsimply couldn’t find a place for the former Real Madrid man in his lineup, eventually benching him in favour of Ander Herrera. In fact, Man Utd’s improvement came immediately after Di Maria’s dismissal in the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal. They were simply a better team with their most expensive player on the bench.
"I'm happy because I know my wife and child will be happy in Paris," Di Maria explained upon his unveiling in the French capital, as per BBC Sport. "It wasn't just my decision to leave. If I left it was also because they decided to sell me. The three parties agreed. Me, Manchester United and PSG agreed the deal.” As the player himself attests, the transfer was to the benefit of all involved—a rarity in the modern game’s transfer window.
Van Gaal’s United is still taking shape, and with Pedro in the side it will be somewhat more distinguishable. Di Maria might have looked a good fit initially, but given what we know now, Pedro is the player they needed all along.

Report: Louis van Gaal admits signing Angel di Maria a mistake

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has privately admitted signing Angel di Maria last summer was a mistake, according to reports.
The Red Devils signed the Argentine international for a fee of £59.7m last summer, but looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain for £44m.

"I think the manager realised he'd made a mistake with Di Maria and it wasn't going to work," a Manchester United source told the Daily Mirror.
"Of course, Di Maria had a four-year contract and the club could have made him stay. But the manager felt that would be pointless if he didn't have the confidence Di Maria would produce what he wanted."
The 27-year-old played 34 times for United last season, scoring four goals.

United and PSG agree €63m fee for Angel Di Maria

Angel Di Maria's days at United look to be coming to an end

Angel di Maria looks set to have a medical with Paris St Germain over the next 24 hours after Manchester United agreed to sell the midfielder to the French club for €63m.

Press Association Sport understands Di Maria is due to hold talks with PSG officials in Doha on Sunday and is expected to undergo a medical with the French champions.
If all goes to plan, he could sign for PSG as early as Monday.
United gave Di Maria permission to speak to PSG after agreeing a 63million euro (£44.3million) fee with the big-spending French club.
United signed Di Maria from Real Madrid for £59.7million last summer, but after an encouraging start his form dipped drastically and he only started one of the final 10 games of last season.
The former Real Madrid winger was left unsettled after an attempted burglary on his Cheshire home in February.
Since then, the 27-year-old and his family have been living in a city-centre apartment in Manchester owned by former United defender Phil Neville.
Di Maria said as recently as June that he wanted to stay at United, but it became apparent that he had his heart set on a move to the French capital in the last couple of weeks.
The Argentinian was due to report for duty during the second leg of United's pre-season tour of the United States on July 25, but failed to show.
After United's 2-0 defeat to PSG in Chicago on Thursday, Laurent Blanc said both clubs were "close" to striking a deal for the former Benfica player.
''Manchester United and PSG are two big clubs and negotiations can be difficult but we are close to the end,'' the PSG coach said.
United manager Louis van Gaal claimed at the time that he had no idea where his star midfielder was.
''I don't know where he is,'' the United boss said.
''You can ask that every week but I don't answer that question.''
Van Gaal is expected to move quickly to sign a replacement for Di Maria. The Dutchman is interested in Barcelona forward Pedro, who was frustrated by his lack of game time at the Nou Camp last season.

Man United transfer news: Di Maria medical, Real Madrid pursuit, Barca deal moves closer

Angel Di Maria is set to complete a medical in the next 24 hours ahead of his move to Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Sunday Mirror.
As reported by the Sunday Express, the Argentine has already agreed personal terms with the French Champions.
United are still negotiating a fee for the winger having accepted they won't be able to recoup all of the £59.7million they paid last summer.
A fee of £46million is expected to be agreed for the 27-year-old after meeting club officials in Doha today.

Louis van Gaal has not given up the chase of signing Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.
With Di Maria on his way out, the Welshman could be seen as the perfect replacement and United aren't deterred by the prospect of having to pay a world record fee.

Barcelona winger Pedro is also edging closer towards a move to Old Trafford with Van Gaal stating his desire to sign the Spain international.
He told The Sun: "Barcelona have the speed of Neymar and [Lionel] Messi - and they have Pedro behind them. We have to compete with that.
"We can win the title if we can buy players with speed and creativity. We have to improve our selection in that way."

Manchester United news and transfers: PSG 'make opening £45m bid for Angel Di Maria'

PLUS: Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains coy on reports linking him with a move to Old Trafford AND Louis van Gaal is dealt a blow in his pursuit of Sergio Ramos.

Big money: PSG have reportedly offered £45m for Di Maria
Here are all the latest Red Devils stories from today's Daily Mirror...

Benitez "100% certain" of Ramos stay

Rafa Benitez has dealt Manchester United a huge blow by claiming he's “100%” certain Sergio Ramos is staying at Real Madrid.
And the Madrid boss insisted that despite Louis van Gaal saying the Bernabeu skipper may be “in the process” of United's summer transfer strategy the Spanish international defender won't be joining United.
“Sergio Ramos is our player and he is a key player for us," said Benitez.
“I would like to see him at the beginning of the season playing for us. I think he will be crucial for us during the season.
"I am 100 per cent. I insist it's clear for me and for the club that Sergio will be here.
"I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal and football is a curious world, but Sergio Ramos will stay with us."

Di Maria nearing PSG move

Angel Di Maria is "not expected" to play for Manchester United again, a source close to negotiations has told MirrorFootball.
The Argentina midfielder signed from Real Madrid for a club-record £60million fee last summer after a move to Paris Saint-Germain had fallen through.
But after a turbulent year in the Premier League, Di Maria is now anticipated to finally make the move to Paris after negotiations re-opened between the clubs.
Di Maria will join the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of the United States of America this week - having enjoyed an extended break after the Copa America - and with the French champions also Stateside he could complete a move and be presented as a PSG player before returning to Europe.
The two clubs' valuations remain some distance apart, but such is the determination from both sides to get a deal done that it is expected that an accord will be struck.

Young left waiting on new deal

Ashley Young is desperate to stay at Manchester United but admitted he has no idea if he will secure a new deal, writes David McDonnell in San Francisco.
Winger Young is out of contract at the end of next season and has so far failed to sign an extension.
One of the success stories of Louis van Gaal's first season as manager, England international Young was expected to cap his renaissance by penning a new deal with the Reds.
But although United handed new deals to Michael Carrick, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, all of whom had a year left, just like Young, they have kept the 30-year-old ex-Aston Villa wide-man waiting.
Ashley Young evades Aaron Ramsey
“I think a lot of people thought I had it done, but I haven’t,” said Young. “It’s in the club’s hands now so I’ll have to see how it goes. I want to go out and and play and at the moment I’m on tour so I’m trying to enjoy myself.
“I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world so I want to stay here as long as possible. That’s exactly what I want to do. I hope we can sort things out. There have been preliminary talks, so I’m just looking to go out on the pitch and leave my agent to take care of that.”

Busquets: Pedro ready to leave Barca

Manchester United target Pedro is ready to leave Barcelona this summer, according to team-mate Sergio Busquets.
United are chasing Barca attacker Pedro , but must activate his £22million release clause if they are to bring him to Old Trafford.
Busquets, speaking in San Francisco ahead of Barca's game with United on Saturday, said he had spoken to Pedro about his future and hinted his team-mate wants to play more regularly.
“Yes, I have spoken to him but I won't tell you what he said,” said Busquets. “It was a private conversation. I would want him to stay, I would love him to stay.
“He's a friend of mine and it will be his final decision. He wants to play more and get more minutes. That's what he wants."

Zlatan coy on Red Devils link

Elsa
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has refused to comment on speculation surrounding his future at Paris Saint-Germain.
The veteran striker has been linked with being United boss Louis van Gaal's "mystery" summer signing.
However, he told Sky Italia: "Should I stay in Paris? My future is in the hands of [agent] Mino Raiola."

PSG 'make opening Di Maria bid'

PSG have started the bidding for United winger Angel Di Maria, according to reports in France.
RMC claim the French champions have lodged a £45m offer for the Argentine's services.
Di Maria endured a tough season last term following his big money move from Real Madrid and is understood to be keen on a move away from the Premier League.

Bayern won't sell Muller

Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller celebrates scoring their third goal
Bayern Munich will not sell Thomas Muller to United this summer, according to reports.
The Germany striker, 25, has been linked with a sensational €100m move to Old Trafford.
However, German football expert Rafael Honigstein told talkSPORT: “I don’t think there’s any realistic chance Bayern Munich will let Thomas Muller leave.
“There’s even a suggestion that the latest bid from Manchester United was leaked by Bayern, just to say, ‘we are Bayern, the bids are coming in and we are saying no regardless’.
“If there was something serious going on they would be very careful to keep it quiet because politically it’s dynamite. If they let Muller go, there would be riots in the streets of Munich.”

Man United transfer news: Pedro release clause to be activated?

Will Pedro be a Premier League player next season?
Here, talkSPORT looks at the latest news on what is fast becoming a transfer saga.
PEDRO HAS DOUBTS
Sergio Busquets, Pedro's Barcelona and Spain team-mate, says he hopes his friend stays at the club, though accepts any decision on his future will be down to Pedro. “I think that as a team-mate and friend, I would like him to stay for a long time, but I understand that he has doubts,” he said.
PAY UP OR GET LOST
“Like I've said before, if a player wants to go, someone will have to meet their release clause, otherwise it will be difficult,” Luis Enrique, the Barcelona manager said, in a clear indication Pedro will leave in the summer. That is providing there is a club willing to stump up the £21m Enrique referenced when he mentioned the release clause, report Marca.
MAN UNITED CLOSING IN
Spanish publication AS say Man United are closing in on Pedro and money to activate the £21m release clause could come from funds generated from selling Angel Di Maria to PSG.
